Operation Christmas Child

Posted by Don Ball on

This time of year as we begin to think about Thanksgiving dinner with our families and Christmas presents, it is a time to remember all that we are thankful for. However, there are many in this world who do not even know where their next meal is coming from.

There are so many reputable charities out there, those that feed hungry children, help to feed and clothe the homeless or provide them with blankets and hygiene items, those who provide toys or meals for families in need. Although we support several organizations, the one we have chosen to focus on this year is Operation Christmas Child.

If you have not heard about Operation Christmas Child, it is a program where people fill shoeboxes full of items for children. The age groups are 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14. They ask that the boxes be filled with basic hygiene items (washcloth and soap, toothbrush, combs, etc), school supplies (pens, pencils, erasers, scissors, calculators) and toys. For some of these children, it is the first Christmas gift they have ever received...for others it is a bright spot in a difficult life.

Our family has packed 18 boxes to travel to these beautiful children, but we would love to be able to do more. Each box costs $9 to ship so we are looking for sponsors to cover those, but anything over that amount would go towards more boxes (each box is about $25 to build). We have until November 5 so we're asking if you are inclined to give to this cause, here is our GoFundMe link: https://www.gofundme.com/giveagifttoday  We also welcome checks, credit card payments, Paypal and more.
